After weeks and weeks of studying, procrastinating, not sleeping enough, cramming, procrastinating in classes by studying for other classes…
Freedom!
The days right after my final exams were pretty dull, uneventful, and unproductive. This was strange because while I was frantically studying for final exams, I remember planning and picturing all the things I would do once I was out of the academic hell-hole. But once they were over, I felt a bit dead to be honest. Zombie-ish, if you will. All the motivation I had for studying seemed to drain away completely, even for my normal everyday activities, like reading or watching TV. It probably has to do with mindset. Heck, while I was studying, anything else seemed favorable. Even doing the dishes or cleaning the toilet seemed welcoming to me. It’s funny how when my exams were over, I didn’t feel like doing anything at all. This lasted for about 1 whole week before I started feeling like myself again!
After my post-finals “depression,” it was almost Christmas already…but I had not put up any decorations, baked any christmas cookies, or sent any holiday greetings, and the tree I bought weeks ago was still naked! Yes, I freaked out a little. I realized something had to be done, and I was the one that had to do it…so I did. It took quite a lot of time and energy, but it was worth it in the end. I revisited an old recipe for Punition Cookies and made about 50 of them for family and friends (with a lot of taste-testing in between batches :P). Christmas came quickly and left even quicker.
Amidst the holiday frenzy I somehow stumbled upon this old EAv blog. Can you believe it’s been about 6 months since I quit Empire Avenue? Pretty crazy how fast time flies. The reason I quit was because school was starting up again, and I knew I wouldn’t be able to manage my time wisely with something as addicting and distracting as EAv in the way. I forced myself to delete my account. This was during the time in which the mechanics of EAv were constantly changing and being tinkered with, and “Vacation Mode” hadn’t even come out yet.
I have a bit of free time before my next quarter starts, and then I’ll probably go in vacation mode. It won’t be until summer that I become seriously active. However, I’m active in social media almost everyday, regardless of the amount of studying or school work I have! I might not even have to go into vacation mode, in the best-case scenario. 8)
So, hello EAv. Nice to meet you again.
